Vintage Ad Museum (Museu da Propaganda) began in 1999, when Brazilian advertising professional Arthur Tamer Vasques, still a student, had a simple idea: to build a small virtual museum of old ads and share the gallery with everyone.
Through these ads, the museum shows the memory of an era and a portrait of a society whose behaviour and habits have kept changing over the decades.
It has no building. The collection is organised by period, from the 19th century to the 1990s, by medium and by country. It keeps growing, and more and more it sets out to show the cultural differences between countries, always through advertising and its different eras.
In 2026, opening up to other languages, the museum took the name Vintage Ad Museum. In English and German, propaganda suggests political propaganda; the original name lives on in the descriptor: Museu da Propaganda, since 1999.
News also comes through Instagram and Facebook. We hope you enjoy it, and have a good trip to the past!
Arthur is Brazilian, with a degree in Communication (Advertising and Marketing) and a master’s in Marketing from the University of Seville, Spain. After 12 years in Spain he moved to Germany, where he lives today with his family. He still works in marketing and advertising campaigns and, in his spare time, keeps the Vintage Ad Museum up to date.
