Walita | 1962

Vintage ad for Walita, 1962

Engineer Waldemar Clemente and his wife, Lita Clemente, combined their names to christen one of the best-known brands in Brazilian industry: Walita.

Eletro Indústria Walita launched the first blender made in Brazil. Some say Waldemar Clemente himself coined the Portuguese word liquidificador (blender).

By the 1960s Walita was one of Latin America’s leading makers of kitchen appliances. Philips bought the company in 1971 and in 2004 joined the two names in the Philips Walita range.

In this ad, a floor polisher is among the Christmas gifts “she’ll love most”: a portrait of a time when a present for a woman was often an appliance for the home. It ran in O Cruzeiro magazine in December 1962.
