KIBON | 1959

From China to Brazil! In the 1930s an American, Ulysses Harkson, began in China the story of what every Brazilian now knows as Kibon.
As tension between China and Japan grew, Harkson looked for somewhere far from the conflict to set up his business, and in 1941 founded U.S. Harkson do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro.
At first the company also made dried eggs, sweets, chocolates and other products to make up for the seasons when people ate less Sorvex Kibon, as the ice cream was first called.
This 1959 ad from the comic Edição Maravilhosa features Kibon’s famous chocolates of the time.
