VARIG | 1962

Viação Aérea Rio-Grandense (VARIG). Founded in 1927 by former German air force pilot Otto Ernst Meyer, VARIG was Brazil’s first airline.
Its first route linked Porto Alegre, Pelotas and Rio Grande. By the 1960s, as this ad shows, it flew across Brazil, South America and to the United States.
GOL bought VARIG in 2007, keeping its planes and brand. In 2013 the VARIG name disappeared from the skies for good.
