Rotbart | 1959

“Naßrasiert = glattrasiert”: wet-shaved means clean-shaven. In 1959, Rotbart offered its precision razor with two “Extra Dünn” blades for just 1 mark.
The brand was born in Berlin, where Otto Roth's blade firm merged with Hugo Büchner's in the 1920s to form Roth-Büchner; Gillette later took control. Rotbart means “red beard”.
The slogan at the bottom, “Gut rasiert – gut gelaunt” (well shaved, in good spirits), was already printed on Rotbart tins in the 1920s. In 1959 it defended the blade against a newer rival: the electric shaver.
A cheap razor to sell the blades is a model that still drives the shaving business. Rotbart Extra Dünn blades are still sold.
