hohes C | 1959

“Doctor's advice for summer days: start the day ‘vitamin-refreshed’.” In August 1959, hohes C promised the vitamins of 4 pounds of sun-ripened Florida oranges in every 0.7-litre bottle.
The juice had been launched in 1958 by Eckes, a family firm from Nieder-Olm, near Mainz, that had been distilling spirits since 1857. The name says it all: hohes C means “high C”.
In this ad we can see a daily “dosage” for every age, from babies in their second week of life to older people, backed by a doctor in a white coat. Today paediatricians advise against juice for babies, and health claims like these are strictly regulated.
hohes C is still made in Nieder-Olm, by Eckes-Granini.
