Le Galion | 1939

Tubéreuse, by Le Galion, of 16 rue d'Orléans in Neuilly: in July 1939, a soft-focus photograph of white flowers and a dark faceted bottle with a galleon engraved on its label was all the perfume needed.
Le Galion was founded in 1930 by Prince Murat, a descendant of Napoleon's marshal Joachim Murat, and sold in the mid-1930s to the perfumer Paul Vacher, who had co-created Lanvin's Arpège and would later co-create Miss Dior. Tubéreuse belongs to a series of floral perfumes he signed in 1937.
The photograph is signed by Laure Albin Guillot, one of the leading French photographers of the period.
The house went quiet for decades and was revived in the 2010s, with Tubéreuse back in its range.
