Carlos Coppel | 1922

Vintage ad for Carlos Coppel, 1922

Karl Coppel, a German immigrant who arrived in Spain aged just 20, founded in 1887 a clockmaker that would mark the hours of several generations: Carlos Coppel, fábrica de relojes.

An engineer by training, Carlos (his name now adapted to Spanish) became famous in Spain thanks to countless ads in newspapers and magazines and a wide range of clocks.

He made and sold wall clocks, wristwatches, travel and pocket watches and even tower clocks, such as the one on the Press Building on Madrid’s Paseo de la Castellana.

Carlos Coppel died in 1928; his children and grandchildren ran the company until it closed in 1997, after 110 years.

This ad ran in the Spanish magazine Blanco y Negro in 1922.
