Agfa Billette | 1930

1930 German magazine ad for the Agfa Billette camera. Pencil-style drawing of an elegant man and woman looking at a handful of printed photographs. Below left, a drawing of the open folding camera; headline “Mit der Billette immer gute, scharfe Bilder”, the price 45 Mark and the Agfa diamond logo.

“Mit der Billette immer gute, scharfe Bilder”: always good, sharp pictures with the Billette. In 1930, Agfa offered this folding camera for 45 marks.

Its selling point was simplicity: “ready to shoot with one movement”, with a two-point focus setting, near and far, so that there was no difficult guessing of distances.

In this ad we can see the reward of photography in 1930: a fashionable couple looking at a stack of freshly printed photos, a pleasure that came days after the click.

The Billette shows how cameras were becoming everyday objects, sold to amateurs rather than experts.
