Vintage ad for Philips, 1960

In 1891 Dutch engineer Gerard Philips founded a company in Eindhoven to make incandescent light bulbs and electrical products: Philips.

It grew year after year and expanded abroad. By 1910 Philips was the largest employer in the Netherlands, and in the late 1920s it began making radios, which soon became its star product.

Always innovating, Philips pioneered products that marked generations, such as video cassettes and record players, and others still part of daily life: electric shavers, CDs, DVDs, automatic coffee makers and smart TVs.

With more than 125 years of history, Philips today works in many fields, from small appliances to advanced medical technology.

This ad ran in a German magazine in November 1960.
