Sheaffer | 1968

“Para lucir”: to show off. In December 1968, Sheaffer presented the new Silver Imperial fountain pen, in sterling silver with a 14-carat gold nib, “for those who can afford a luxury” and as a gift that shows “your good taste”.
Walter A. Sheaffer, a jeweller from Fort Madison, Iowa, patented a lever-filling pen in 1908 and founded his company in 1913. The white dot on the cap, the “Punto Blanco” in the ad, has marked Sheaffer's best pens since 1924.
The small logo reads “a Textron company”: the American conglomerate had bought Sheaffer in 1966.
In an age of ballpoints, the fountain pen was becoming jewellery. Sheaffer now belongs to William Penn, an Indian pen company.
