Salão do Automóvel | 1962

Vintage ad for Salão do Automóvel, 1962

More than half a century of history. The São Paulo Motor Show was created by advertising executive Caio de Alcântara Machado in 1960. That first year it brought together classics like the Aero Willys, Renault Dauphine, Kombi and Chevrolet Amazonas.

The idea came just four years after the birth of Brazil’s car industry, betting that the car was here to stay.

From 1964, with the fourth edition, the show became biennial. In 1970 it moved from Ibirapuera to a new home, Parque Anhembi.

It grew into one of the largest motor shows in the world and a major event for the Brazilian economy.

This ad for the third Motor Show ran in O Cruzeiro in 1962.
