“Regalos Avon para toda la familia”: Avon gifts for the whole family. In December 1968, a mother and daughter in long nightgowns sat under a tinsel-covered Christmas tree, surrounded by perfumes, soaps and novelty bottles shaped like a frog, a whale and a boot.

The real message is in the small photo: “When the Avon representative calls at your door… welcome her!” Avon goes back to 1886, when David McConnell, a door-to-door book salesman in New York, noticed that customers preferred his perfume samples to his books. The company took the name Avon in 1939.

The Avon lady brought cosmetics into the home and gave many women their own income, at a time when few Spanish women worked outside the home.

Since 2020 Avon has belonged to the Brazilian group Natura &Co.
