Lorso | 1968

“¡Nueva! ¡Pruébela! Es mejor confiar en MG”: new, try it, it's better to trust MG. In December 1968, a new condensed milk called Lorso arrived in a can decorated with flowers, ears of wheat, a little bear logo and a yellow butterfly.
Condensed milk had been made in Spain since 1910, when Nestlé began producing La Lechera in Cantabria. Before sterilised milk became common, a sweet, long-lasting tin was a pantry essential and a dessert ingredient.
We could not identify the company behind the “MG” brand, and Lorso seems to have disappeared. Any reader who remembers it is welcome to tell us.
The spoon pouring thick white milk into the open can still speaks to anyone with a sweet tooth.
