Flaminaire | 1968

“Elegir: el único problema que plantea Flaminaire”: choosing, the only problem Flaminaire poses. In December 1968, seven coloured FlaminaireCar lighters lined up on the bonnet of a white convertible, with three young people on board.
The French firm claimed to have created “the world's first gas lighter”. Its owner, Marcel Quercia, bought a butane-lighter patent in 1939, and the first Flaminaire gas lighters were sold in 1947. Now it offered one for the car, mounted in seconds.
A lighter for the dashboard says a lot about the period: smoking while driving was normal, and cars came with ashtrays.
In 1971 Flaminaire was taken over by BIC, which launched its own disposable lighter two years later.
