“Für jeden Haushalt die richtige Waschmaschine”: the right washing machine for every household. In 1959, AEG offered a whole range: spin-dryers from 248 marks, washing machines from 520, washer-spinner combinations from 1,080 and the fully automatic Lavamat from 1,650 marks.

AEG was founded in Berlin in 1883 and took its name in 1887. It launched the Lavamat in 1958 and presents it as the world's first fully automatic washing machine.

The ad speaks to “every housewife”, and the prices show that the automatic was still a luxury: with a combination, wet laundry still had to be moved by hand into the spin-dryer.
