Bytom | 1976

«Spójrz, może być twój» (Look, it could be yours). In July 1976 a young man in a rust-coloured suit invited readers of the Polish monthly Magazyn Rodzinny to choose a jacket from the rail behind him.
The brand takes its name from the town where it was born: Bytom, in Upper Silesia. In 1945, in a former German sewing workshop, the State Clothing Factory in Bytom started production. The town itself had been the German Beuthen until that same year.
In this ad we can see the 1970s without any restraint: wide lapels, flared trousers, a dark shirt and a tie full of flowers. Even the model fits the decade, with curls, a beard and his arms crossed.
Bytom survived the end of communism and the arrival of foreign brands. In 2018 it merged with Vistula, another Polish menswear maker, and today it belongs to the VRG group in Kraków. According to the brand, its suits are still sewn in Poland.
Would you have worn this suit?
