Pelikan | 1930

“Durchsichtig”: transparent. In 1930, Pelikan advertised the see-through ink chamber of its fountain pen: “you always know when you need to fill it.” One size, one quality, one price: 15 marks.
Pelikan goes back to an ink and paint works near Hanover from 1838, later run by Günther Wagner, who took the pelican from his family crest. In 1927 the firm bought the piston-filling patent of the Hungarian engineer Theodor Kovács, and in 1929 it launched its first fountain pen.
The Art Deco diagonals turn the pen into an arrow pointing at the nib.
Pelikan still makes piston-filling fountain pens today.
